A Notary has the additional authority issued by the High Court to draft and sign these legal documents. Not all Lawyers are Notaries.

What is an Apostille
It may happen that in addition to the Attestation and Authentication Certificate by the Notary, another document is required to confirm that the Notary is a duly admitted authorised Notary. This additional document is called an Apostille and is used by the High Court who admitted and authorised the Notary. We will apply and provide you with an Apostille, if needed.
Legal documents a notary can not authenticate
Certain documents issued in South Africa (to be used abroad) may only be authenticated by the DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION (DIRCO) and not by a Notary.
We attend to the Authentication and Apostille by the relevant DEPARTMENT IN SA and DIRCO of the following:
a) Documents issued by the DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS (i.e. birth, marriage, death certificates; letters of no impediment (marital status); proof of citizenship; travel documents (passports) or identity documents)
b) POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATES (not older than 6 months)
c) HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA (HPCSA – MEDICAL CERTIFICATES)
d) Degrees issued by the DEPARTMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING (DHET)
e) Matric certificates issued by the DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION (DBE) / (UMALUSI)
f) CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (EXPORT RELATED DOCUMENTS)
g) COMPANIES AND INTELLECTUAL COMMISSION OFFICE (CIPC)
h) DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY (DTI)
i) DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT
What costs are involved
Notarial authentication certificate
- Certification of a copy as a true copy of the original: R550-00
- Original documentation to be certified must be provided. Delivery and collection of the original documents can be arranged.
Notarial Attestation Certificate.
- Certification of a person’s signature on a document: R750-00
- Original positive Identification must be provided.
Apostille From the High Court
- Certificate from the High Court that Notary is authorised: R1 200-00
Notarial Life Partnership Agreement
- Drafting of agreement between life partners and attending to signatures: R1 250-00
Authentication by Relevant SA Department (Dhet or Amalusi)
- Arranging Authentication by relevant SA DEPARTMENT that issued document: R1 200-00
Authentication / Apostille by Dirco
- Arranging Authentication / Apostille by DIRCO: R2 000-00
